  What You Visit
   
  The House of Virgin Mary
  The Vatican has recognized this small house in the Solmissos Mountains as the final resting place of the Virgin Mary. A small shrine dedicated to St. Mary was found when the ruins of the house were first discovered.
   
  Ephesus
  Enter the through the Magnesia Gate and begin a slow, downhill walk with your guide into the ruins of this Roman provincial capital. Your route takes you past the Odeon, the Celsus Library, the Temple of Hadrian, the Fountain of Trajan and the Great Theater. The Theater had seating for 25,000, was the site where St. Paul preached to the Ephesians, and is used today for a local spring festival.
   
  The Terrace Houses
  Ephesus Terrace Houses are located on the slopes of Bulbul Mountain, opposite the Hadrian Temple. Also called as "the houses of rich", these houses were for the important and wealthy people of Ephesus, as only rich people could afford such houses.
   
  The Basilica of St. John
  Built by the Emperor Justinian over the tomb of St. John the Apostle, the Basilica, now in ruins, once rivaled St. Sophia in size. One can still see graceful columns, mosaics and frescoes.
   
  The Ephesus Museum
  This small museum in Selcuk boasts an incredible collection of Hellenistic and Roman statues, carved reliefs and artifacts unearthed from the ruins of Ephesus.
   
 
   
  Special Notes
   
  - Ephesus requires walking long distances over uneven surfaces.
- Basilica of St. John involves some walking at an uphill gradient and
  a few stairs.
- Visitors to the House of Virgin Mary must climb a few steps.
- Terrace Houses require walking up many steps.
- Comfortable clothing and closed toe, sensible walking shoes are
  recommended. Sunglasses and sunscreen are suggested.
